Designer Profile

Andrea Hyde has focused her expertise and ingenuity on health care facility design since 1983.

Those who know and work with Andrea, know that she is truly driven to improve the quality of healthcare design, by transforming institutional facilities into healing environments for her many hospital, ambulatory, senior living, and medi-spa clients in the United States and internationally in the Middle East. She enjoys spreading the word about the effect of evidence-based, innovative healthcare design where ever she can, having spoken at ASHE, AAHSA, Center for Health Design, International Medical Spa, NeoCon, NeoCon East, Hospital Build - Dubai and other healthcare focused conferences and events. Her work has been published in healthcare journals and has won ASID and IIDA healthcare design awards.  For her considerable efforts in the healthcare design industry Andrea was selected out of 150 nominees as one of the “top twenty designers who are making a difference in advancing the design of healthcare facilities” in Healthcare Design Magazine.

Clients

She has been working in the healthcare industry for nearly 30 years. Her work is national and international; her clients include: The Egyptian Ministry of Health, Inova Health, Centra Health, Trinity Health, Ascension Health, MedStar Health, LifeBridge Health, The University of Maryland Medical System, The Veteran’s Administration, the US Army, Navy and Air Force, Erickson Retirement Communities, Genesis Healthcare, Dar Al Fouad Hospital, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and The Arabic International Medical Company.  She is also consulting and designing healthcare specific furnishings and finishes for various manufacturers in the United States.

In her current role as Sr. Project Manager-Interiors within the Planning Design + Construction Department, Andrea is leading Stanford Health Care’s evidence-based system-wide interior environment surface and furnishing selection and standardization processes - to ensure facility environments are safe, sustainable and support the unique innovation and hi-tech-driven Silicon Valley community that works and heals within them well into the future.

Prior to her current SHC position Andrea:
  • Served as Director of Design and Architecture at Life Bridge Health System
  • Served as a Senior Planner/Designer at Johns Hopkins Health System
  • Provided Code and Guideline writing expertise and training for an EU/Egyptian Ministry of Health Grant funded project - living and working in Cairo Egypt to do so
  • Served as Founder and President of Hyde, Incorporated Interior Design an International Healthcare Facility focused Full service Interior Designer
 

Organizations

She has been an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers, having served as the Maryland Chapter’s President. Andrea is a founding member of theAmerican Academyof Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID), which certifies healthcare experienced interior designers through testing. She also is a member of the Center for Health Design’s – Environmental Standards Committee, who’s mission it is to improve the quality of healthcare environments through code development, research and award incentives. She served on three four-year terms as a member of the FGI Healthcare Guidelines Review Committee, Andrea was the first Interior Designer to participate in the review and revision of the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of healthcare Facilities where she also founded and served as the Chairman of the Surfaces and Furnishings Committee.
