Shaw Contract Introduces a Regenerative Solution for Healing Spaces

Living Systems offers a flexible toolkit for the built environment

Cartersville, GA – Shaw Contract, a design leader in commercial flooring solutions and surfaces, is pleased to introduce Living Systems, a new Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Silver collection of 9” x 36” carpet tiles that represents a holistic design approach. Embracing the concept of regenerative design, Living Systems integrates our human needs in the built environment with sustainable integrity.

Forward-thinking designers, now, more than ever, are focused on sustainability and wellbeing – seeking spaces that satisfy the personal and social ability to live and thrive, without compromising future generations. With sustainable, regenerative design at its core, Living Systems is poised to elevate modern interiors through understanding the regenerative aspiration of refurbishment, social engagement and community.

Shaw Contract Living Systems“The Living Systems collection was designed utilizing the principles of regenerative design,” said Allison Wolff Director of Healthcare for Shaw Contract. “Living Systems impacts human and natural resources by integrating the total system rather than focus on any specific component.”

As biophilic design becomes increasingly important in the built environment for its restorative and rejuvenating benefits, Living Systems’ nature-inspired and regenerative qualities are particularly relevant. With biophilic references that evoke a sense of calm, Living Systems is a welcome solution for healing spaces. This soft surface flooring collection reduces stress through the use of patterns, textures and colors found in the natural ecosystem, creating a visual that promotes wellbeing.

Living Systems aims to observe nature, respond to be adaptive, transform outlooks, and co-create a living system for all interior spaces. The collection features seven related patterns, including: Observe, Observe Color, Respond, Respond Color, Transform, Transform Color and Endless. The textures, color palette and patterns work together as a holistic system, with references to the infinite variation and irregularity found in nature. This system-led regenerative design influences the organic and textural aesthetics of the collection.

OBSERVE & OBSERVE COLOR
Outlines the change of an endless series of grainy textures in the imperfect union of broken rock.

RESPOND & RESPOND COLOR
Mimics vegetation in nature, representing structure but accommodating variation.

TRANSFORM & TRANSFORM COLOR
Demonstrates the breakdown of rock. The larger and smaller elements represent regenerating and reforming.

ENDLESS
Supports zoning and transition between the core collection styles, extracting core colors and selected neutrals.

The collection offers a variety of solutions, featuring a range of scale and colors that allow designers the flexibility and freedom to develop an infinite number of combinations and variations. The modular format opens opportunities to merge patterns and color gradations, which can be used for zoning and defining the functionality of each space. From quiet settings to communal areas, the visual cues of Living Systems serve as beneficial means of communication.

This soft surface flooring collection creates a soothing, safe and supportive environment; it can be installed in a variety of formats – ashlar, monolithic and herringbone. With enhanced acoustic properties, Living Systems provides a solution to the strain of unwanted noise in healthcare spaces and beyond. The noise reduction contributes to better treatment, while the carpet tile is also a non-slip surface.

Constructed from Eco Solution Q® dyed nylon and EcoWorx® PVC-free performance backing, the Living Systems collection is designed to have superior durability, maintenance, style and recyclability. In addition, the construction of the fiber system is color-fast even when exposed to most chemicals that can be associated with disinfecting surfaces. If damage does occur, individual tiles can easily be replaced without causing major disruption to the affected area.
