Can’t attend EFA? Attend a repeat of AAHID’s session, presented by Melinda Avila-Torio, PK Beville, and Sharon Harper titled “Aging, Accessibility, Autism, and Dementia: Designing for Everyone?” hosted by SAGE Federation on May 6th from 12-1pm CT.
Designing for everyone includes consideration of the capabilities of residents, patients, and the public. Our experience with Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) has taught that incorporating accessibility solutions benefits everyone. Studies of the biological link between Autism and Dementia increase the understanding that there are more similarities than differences. Exploring these timelines side by side, we can consider how design and product solutions applied for one group may be implemented in a different approach for the other. Join our discussion of aging, accessibility, autism, and dementia as we explore the benefits of incorporating elements of inclusion, equity, and diversity to improve all healthcare environments.
