Join a Committee and Become an Integral Part of AAHID
Volunteering to serve on an AAHID committee is a vital contribution that significantly impacts the healthcare interior design field. Such committees play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining high standards for healthcare environments. By volunteering, you bring your expertise and passion to the table, helping to shape guidelines and practices that drive innovation and improve the work of AAHID. Committee work fosters professional growth, encourages collaboration among peers, and enhances the overall credibility of the certification process.
Volunteer applications are open from October 1st through November 1st each year. Committee terms are 3-year terms from January 1st – December 31st. The Application Review Committee is responsible for the review and approval of exam candidate applications as well as Emeritus status applications. The exam application review period is from May 16th – June 1st each year in order to notify approved candidates in a timely manner.

The Industry Partners Committee is responsible for coordinating outreach and engagement between AAHID’s Industry partners and AAHID Board, Staff, and CHIDs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all parties. Your responsibilities will include identifying opportunities to enhance the value of our partnerships and working with staff to determine the most appropriate contacts for obtaining information. Additionally, you will collaborate with the AAHID Board, staff, and other AAHID committees (as necessary), to support operational needs and streamline marketing and social media outreach as it relates to Industry Partners. Regular, monthly meetings, will be scheduled as needed to facilitate ongoing communication and address emerging needs.

The Marketing and Social Media Committee is actively engaged in marketing and outreach initiatives to enhance the visibility of AAHID and the CHID appellation. This committee is responsible for proposing and implementing strategies to boost awareness of AAHID within the healthcare interior design community. Additionally, committee members will collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to support operational needs and streamline marketing and social media outreach efforts, ensuring effective coordination with AAHID committees. Regular monthly meetings will be held to discuss progress, address any challenges, and refine strategies as needed.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for preparing the slate of candidates for appointment to the AAHID Board including Officer positions. This committee evaluates the current Board members and plans for upcoming vacancies to ensure a succession plan is in place. The committee reviews all applications and interviews applicants as necessary. This committee beings its work in early August and presents a recommended slate to the AAHID Board for their Fall Board meeting.

The Outreach Committee spearheads initiatives to support candidates in their study preparations, recognizing CHIDs, and highlight significant industry and project achievements. Additionally, this committee collaborates with allied professional organizations and Industry Partners, coordinating efforts with the respective Marketing/Social Media and Industry Partner initiatives. This committee oversees the CHID Meet-ups, CHID Spotlights, the AAHID Booth at the HCD Expo, and the annual CHID needs-assessment survey. This committee meets on a monthly basis based on projects and committee availability.

The Research and Education Committee is responsible for proposing, planning, and implementing educational opportunities for the healthcare design community, focusing on advancing knowledge and application of evidence-based design (EBD) principles. This committee also works to educate CHIDs on how to seek, understand, and apply research grounded in EBD. Collaborating with allied partner organizations are key, including reviewing research papers, providing CHID jurors, and writing abstract summaries. Additionally, this committee facilitates opportunities for CHIDs and Industry Partners to contribute white papers in line with AAHID application guidelines. Educational session content will be proposed to the Executive Committee for selection and sub-committees will either develop the sessions or assign volunteers to present. The committee meets on a monthly basis as necessary. Additional calls may be needed if committee members are assigned to speak at an AAHID session.

The Test Development Committee (TDC) is responsible for the preparation, administration, evaluation, and scoring of the CHID certification examination. This committee works closely with AAHID’s Testing Company, CMS, to periodically review and revise the current CHID exam items, exam references, and candidate handbook, to incorporate current best practices, psychometric analysis, and evaluation of the CHID candidate feedback to ensure the CHID is a defensible credentialing exam. This committee begins their work in November/December each year and completes their work by no later than April 15th each year to ensure that the exam is ready for the September exam window.
